Has Gemini 3 been released?

As of January 2025, Gemini 3 has not been released. In fact, it hasn't even been announced. Gemini Ultra 1.0 was released to the public in December 2023. Google quickly followed up with Gemini 1.5 in February 2024. Since then, Google has released experimental versions of Gemini 2.0, but there has been no official announcement of Gemini 3.  

History of Google Gemini Launches

Google has launched several versions of its Gemini AI models on the following dates:

Google has ambitious goals for Gemini, aiming to reach 500 million users by the end of the year. This indicates their intention to grow their base which we assume includes Gemini 2.5, and eventually Gemini 3.

What we expect from Gemini 2.5 and Gemini 3

While there are no official announcements regarding Gemini 3, we can look at current trends and Google's focus to speculate about its potential features:

  • Enhanced Multimodal Capabilities: Gemini is already multimodal, but Gemini 3 could take this further. Gemini's Multimodal Live API enables low-latency bidirectional voice and video interactions. We can image Gemini 3 takes this further with video, voice, and text interactions all working together.
  • Improved Reasoning and Problem-Solving: Google has consistently focused on improving Gemini's reasoning abilities. Gemini 3 could push the boundaries of AI problem-solving, potentially surpassing human experts in even more complex tasks.

Given the trends, overall we expect significant advancement in multimodal and reasoning capabilities.

While specific details are conjecture at this point. Given the previous improvements to models we expect Gemini 3, or Gemini 2.5, in 2025 with these updates.
